Creativity comes in all degrees and flavors.

I think most artists are do-it-yourselfers. This attitude may stem from too much imagination and a lack of funds, or it may be because they need or want something not attainable by any other method. I suffer from both maladies and as a result have developed my own ways of getting results. In some ways, researching an idea will stifle creativity. That is not to say one should be ignorant regarding the particulars surrounding a given concept. But often, too much information tends to shape one’s perspective, overshadowing any original ideas that they might have had.

I will sometimes just jump in there with both feet to try to make something happen. Gaining a little experience always sharpens one’s attention to details. Once I get my feet wet, I’m able to get a truer perspective about a thing. I might then take a different approach, maybe let the idea simmer a bit, or perhaps abandon the project altogether. Either way, I come away a little wiser, having added to my bag of tools and ideas.

When I am asked where I get inspiration and ideas for my art, I have to say “Everywhere”. I see opportunities for creative expression at every turn. It is a matter of attitude and perspective. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
